Kam Kotia Treatment Plant Operations and Maintenance Contract

Timmins, Ontario

Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines

Denison Environmental Services (DES) operated the treatment plant at the Kam Kotia site near Timmins from 2003 through 2009.

This property was owned by the Crown, and was one of the most challenging sites to manage due to the physical layout and nature of the acid mine drainage.

The Kam Kotia property produced gold, silver, copper and zinc concentrates. It operated intermittently from 1942 to 1972.

Acid Mine drainage from the abandoned site had adversely impacted the receiving environment. The MNDM has made a significant investment to address the environmental issues at Kam Kotia.

The contract consisted of the following elements:

  • Operation and Maintenance of the Treatment Plant
  • Collection and Analysis of Samples
  • Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reporting
  • Provide expertise on operational improvements
