Panel Tailings Management Area Owned by Rio Algom Looking west over the Panel flooded tailings management area. The foreground shows a wetland area that is part of the tailings management area that has been the site of extensive research into the efficiency of wetlands in rehabilitating mine tailings. The central lakes are the Main and South basins of the Panel tailings management area. The light coloured features are the perimeter retention dams. In the left background Quirke Lake and the Denison site can be seen, with Little Quirke Lake on the right upper section of the picture. The Quirke tailings management area can be seen in the upper background. Flooding of the Panel tailings management area was completed in 1994. |
