Welcome to the Elliot Lake Rehabilitation Information Site.  This is a joint project of Denison Mines Inc. and Rio Algom Limited (part of BHP Billiton PLC) to provide information on the history and rehabilitation of the former uranium mine sites in the Elliot Lake area.

Our Mission

Is to inform the public and interested stakeholders on the progress that has been made in the rehabilitation of the former mine properties of Elliot Lake and to report on the monitoring and maintenance activities through publishing of the annual reports.

Company Profiles

Rio Algom Limited, now part of BHP Billiton, developed many of the mines in the Elliot Lake area in the 1950's, operated the mines for some 40 years, and decommissioned the mines in the 1990's. As owners of the decommissioned mines, Rio Algom is responsible for regulatory monitoring and reporting as well as the operation and maintenance of the effluent treatment facilities and mine sites. Denison Environmental Services, under contract and direction of Rio Algom, provides care and maintenance services for our Elliot Lake sites (go to Sites page).

Denison Mines Inc. (formerly Denison Mines Limited) has similar responsibility for the former uranium properties at Denison, Stanrock and Canmet Mines.   The environmental work at these sites is performed by Denison Environmental Services, a division of Denison Mines Inc.
