Operations Superintendent (Rouyn-Noranda District, QC)

Denison Environmental Services (DES), a division of Denison Mines Inc., is a leader in mine decommissioning and care and maintenance services for closed mine sites in Canada.  DES is an ISO 9001:2008 registered firm with BSI.  DES currently has operations in Ontario, Quebec and Yukon. We are currently seeking an Operations Superintendent (OS) to join our team primarily for our project in Québec at Les Mines Selbaie.

Based in Villebois and Rouyn-Noranda and reporting to the Project Manager, the OS role is to coordinate the Care and Maintenance activities at our Selbaie operations 100km north of Villebois, QC. The OS will be responsible for managing operations and maintenance staff at Selbaie.  Travel to this location will be required.

The OS should have experience in the supervision of skilled labour and technical staff.  The OS should be familiar with pumping systems, electrics and instrumentation particularly as it relates to PLC’s, radio telemetry, remote monitoring, alarms and SCADA.  Experience in elements such as municipal water treatment, mine water treatment, pH control and/or lime slaking would be an asset.  The related SCADA and radio systems will also be maintained as these are integral to the remote monitoring functions.

The OS will be required to make the commitment and participate in the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Program.  Effective implementation of the Health and Safety Program is required. The OS is also part of the site surveillance program that requires workers to be on-call periodically to respond to situations that may arise on weekends or evenings at the various facilities. It is anticipated that the workload of the OS is going to involve a routine of plant and site infrastructure inspections, maintenance and repair.  There may also be occasional consulting or training requirements at other DES projects that would require travel outside the area.

The work requires a high level of computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office software.   An understanding of mining operations would be an asset; however the focus is on treatment plant operations and maintenance. The responsibilities include writing and updating procedures pertaining to Plant Operations. The candidate must also be able to liaise with clients, regulators and team members at all levels. One of the main functions will be to liaise with our client representative on operations and maintenance activities.

DES offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, which includes health and dental coverage; life insurance as well as a registered employee/employer savings plan.
