During the past 100 years Iron Ore has been at the heart of life in Wawa. In June of 1998 The McLeod Mine closed and Sintering operations ceased. Denison Environmental Services was awarded the decommissioning project in May of 1998.

In July of 1998, the task of taking down Algoma Steel Inc.'s , Algoma Ore Division was begun in earnest.

In the Spring of 2000, Denison Environmental Services will be returning to the AOD site to complete the remaining work in the tailings area. We are looking forward to wrapping up work in Wawa by mid-summer.

With very few assets remaining, we are very pleased with the results of the asset sales program. The other members of the DES team would like to congratulate Ed Debois, George Erdmann and their support staff for a job well done.
